We are a nonprofit organization working to preserve the tradition of hot metal typecasting for Letterpress printing. The casting of metal type for composing by hand is a critically endangered industrial process that resides adjacent to the Book Arts, covering nearly the last 400 years of (mostly) American and European printing. Through the curation, preservation and use of machinery we accomplish the transmission of knowledge that is critical for its understanding, purpose and use, enabling the letterpress printers of tomorrow to access metal type that is freshly cast on historic foundry equipment.
